Every college student in India knows the routine: you’re at the canteen or buying semester books, your balance is zero, and you have to call your parents asking them to send ₹500 over GPay. If they’re in a meeting, you’re stuck waiting.
UPI Circle changes everything. A primary account holder (like a parent) can now link a secondary user (the student) to their bank account using two flexible modes:
- Full Delegation (Instant Mode): Parents set a monthly spending cap (up to ₹15,000/month, with a max limit of ₹5,000 per transaction). The student simply scans any QR code and pays directly — without the parent having to approve or enter a PIN every time.
- Partial Delegation (Approval Mode): The student initiates the payment, and the parent receives an instant notification on their phone to approve it using their UPI PIN.
Parents can link up to 5 secondary users, set customized spending limits, and track every single expense in real time. For students, it eliminates the need to maintain a separate minimum balance account or risk high-interest BNPL pay-later traps just to cover daily essentials.
Ask your parents to check the “UPI Circle” or “Delegated Payments” tab inside Google Pay or PhonePe. Setting a ₹3,000–₹5,000 monthly allowance gives you instant UPI freedom for college snacks, bus rides, and books, while keeping your parents in complete control of the total spend.
