₹500 SIP for 10, 15, 20 Years: What It Could Become

₹500 SIP for 10, 15, 20 years illustrative growth at assumed 12%

Quick answer: AMFI says a SIP instalment can be as little as ₹500 a month. Kept up for 10, 15 or 20 years, your own money adds up — and compounding can grow it further. The table below is illustrative only at an assumed 12% a year, not a promise.

Five hundred rupees a month sounds small next to “serious” investing talk. It isn’t nothing. It’s one less impulse order turned into a habit. This bite is outcomes only. For the click-by-click setup, see our Groww/Zerodha ₹500 SIP guide.

₹500 a month: 10, 15 and 20 years

Figures use the Mutual Funds Sahi Hai SIP formula — FV = P × (((1 + i)^n − 1) / i) × (1 + i), with i = annual rate ÷ 12 — and the same assumptions as our SIP calculator: assumed 12% a year, compounded monthly, instalment at the start of each month. Markets do not deliver a flat 12%.

YearsYou put inIllustrative value at 12%
10₹60,000~₹1,16,170
15₹90,000~₹2,52,288
20₹1,20,000~₹4,99,574

Over 20 years you have only put in ₹1.2 lakh of your own money. The right-hand column is what compounding might add at that assumed rate — useful for planning, useless as a guarantee. For a shorter window, our 5-year student guide covers ₹1,000–₹3,000 SIPs; at the same 12% assumption, ₹500 for 5 years is about ₹41,243 on ₹30,000 invested.

Thinking bigger later? Our ₹5,000 SIP for 10, 15, 20 and 25 years breakdown runs the same kind of maths on a larger monthly amount.

Disclaimer: Figures are illustrative at an assumed 12% p.a. Actual mutual fund returns vary and can be negative. This is not investment advice. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks; read all scheme-related documents carefully.

Your next move: Pick a monthly amount you can keep (₹500 is enough to start). Run your own tenure and rate on the SIP calculator, then set up the SIP only when it fits your budget.

FAQs

Is ₹500 enough to start a SIP?

Yes. AMFI states a SIP instalment could be as little as ₹500 per month. Some schemes or platforms may set higher minimums, so check before you start.

Will a ₹500 SIP really become ~₹1.16 lakh in 10 years?

Only if returns match the assumed 12% a year in the illustration. Real returns move with markets. Treat the table as a planning sketch, not a forecast.

Where can I try other amounts or years?

Use the free TeenBucks SIP calculator, or the 5-year student guide for ₹1k–₹3k examples. For placing the SIP, see the Groww/Zerodha setup guide.

Sources checked 15 Oct 2026: AMFI — SIP (instalment as little as ₹500); Mutual Funds Sahi Hai — SIP calculator formula. Illustrative maths match teenbucks.in/sip-calculator/ (12% p.a., monthly compounding, instalment at start of month). Not a return promise.
